wrote & submitted this in april last year for class like 8 days before my first dw entry lol? i think i was initially embarrassed to share this but scholarships are scholarships right....skimming over it now i think i gave sm too much credit for gg subversion (WAY too much considering our lovely recently-debuted incelbait gregorian-chant-interlaced superg hit track) when it was probably a purely-business play at carving a distinct niche in the gg scene but whatever luvies this is for u! *misses the hoop* (mobile users, try this)
Good morning to me and good evening to youuuu!! I dont know much about rv, so i am as much a blank slate as possible aside from being a fan of kpop, so this was deeply fascinating and informative to me!! Im glad you shared it! Also.... the misery of being a woman... i love the scientific way you approached this (im a research paper girl after all), and i love the comparisons that highlight the constant pressure that is put on women in the industry (and elsewhere ofc), significantly larger than on men.
"will remain a victim to these expectations within their cultural and gender identity" yes , I love kpop feminist analysis.
There's so many ways that red velvet conforms to gender expectation - conventionally attractive, thin, pretty dances etc, that I do forget the ways they challenge what it means to be a girl group. The duality concept both helps defy the two assumed categories of girl group (cute and sexy) but I think it also reinforces it in a way ðŸ˜
sorry to be one of those people who leave a comment but it turns out i don't have a dreamwidth account so here we go. this is hay i fucking love this primer so bad and i'm currently making a zine about idol culture and would like to include excerpts from ur google slides in this zine, which is getting made by the start of next year (sorry i know it's kind of tight)
