wrote & submitted this in april last year for class like 8 days before my first dw entry lol? i think i was initially embarrassed to share this but scholarships are scholarships right....skimming over it now i think i gave sm too much credit for gg subversion (WAY too much considering our lovely recently-debuted incelbait gregorian-chant-interlaced superg hit track) when it was probably a purely-business play at carving a distinct niche in the gg scene but whatever luvies this is for u! *misses the hoop*

There's so many ways that red velvet conforms to gender expectation - conventionally attractive, thin, pretty dances etc, that I do forget the ways they challenge what it means to be a girl group. The duality concept both helps defy the two assumed categories of girl group (cute and sexy) but I think it also reinforces it in a way 😭
